Radar and propeller repairs in Grays Harbor...
Tuesday, July 2, 2002

The prop was fouled on a crab trap float at about two in the morning. We dropped anchor and it wasn't until the morning when Glenn suited up and jumped in the chilly ocean water to cut away our problems. Before we pulled up anchor I was hoisted up the mast to replace a broken radar part, a MIC. The radar wasn't working but the winds had picked up making soldering very difficult. We pulled anchor and headed to dock in Westport, WA. Once in port the power supply board was replaced on the radar, but the radar still wasn't working. (I didn't realize until the next morning that nothing is going to work until the power switch says on. The radar functions just fine now.)

After several locals were kind enough to remind us that we would be high and dry by the end of the night the boat settled perfectly in the soft, smelly, slimy, and polluted mud. The propeller was perfectly exposed. The next snag was when we found out that the new three bladed prop was hitting the strut. The hacksaw was whipped out and a notch was cut. The next morning the Sergeant Lewis literally flew out of port. (a few extra knots really make a difference.)
