Windy Bay to Montague Harbor...
Thursday, July 26, 2002
Leaving Windy Bay was definitely less complicated than arriving. Yesterday I had thrown an anchor off our port bow into some rocks and was worried about getting it out. I had to roll my sleeve up and reach deep between the rocks with the wave splashing in my face, but it came loose without any real effort. We traveled south today and the winds were with us. We even had a chance to raise the spinnaker, which was quite a sight. The winds were in the right direction, but way to sporadic, but the moments the big sail was up, was worth it. I even think the boat was up over 9 knots, which is a record. We came back to Montague Bay through Porlier Pass between Valdes and Galiano Island that we played around in on the 21rst. It took us about twenty minutes to motor less than a mile, and the main sail was even helping. The currents were strong. We came back to Montague Bay I guess because we needed some comfort. Being in a familiar place does ease the tension, especially having been in Windy Bay for a night.

Here is a shot of the spinnaker from the deck. It would have been nice to get a shot of the whole boat from a better angle. Big sails full of wind are a grand scene indeed.
